An academic learning center is discovery, review, and application of the direct teaching the teacher has recently taught.

In well-designed learning centers, students participate in activities that help them see curriculum subjects in real-time, hands-on ways. 

How do you add experience and discovery into your lesson plans?

Studying words in a systematic, direct, and intensive approach, instead of just choosing 10-12 words at a time to memorize, will increase vocabulary and improve spelling for all students. 

The multi-sensory approach is when the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic is used all at once. Get your students seeing, hearing, and using their muscles while talking and writing all at one time.

I always love it when I discover a fun way to help students understand or master a concept. Seeing a student enjoy the process of learning gives me hope that they will seek learning opportunities throughout their life.

I found a new learning tool this year and I cannot stop thinking of all the ways to use it for learning! It is a fidget pop. It is supposed to be used for people that need to reduce stress and improve focus and fine motor control.

But I discovered how fun they are to use for learning!

Summer is a great time for teaching hospitality and blending that time with some fun learning activities! Keeping our children active and learning all summer will help their transition into the next grade level. Remember keep it fun!

During a very traumatic time for our daughter, most academic learning was underdeveloped at best. I now realize that she was putting so much effort into simply functioning in life, she didn’t have anything left to give for learning.

Perceptual Motor Skills are so important because these functions are necessary to plan and make decisions. Students must plan and make decisions for every paper or problem that they work to solve. Eliminating the parts of class time that develop these skills will literally handicap student growth, development and academic success.

For students to reach their full potential and greatest academic success, I must consider more than just the curriculum information I need them to learn. I must realize that perceptual motor, trauma, spiritual, cognitive, executive and neurological processes all work together for academic success.

Often a student is handicapped by one or more of these functions that is under or over developed. Students need to be able to function as a member of their classroom community to achieve full student success.
